The purpose of the IC4EU thematic session at the 18th Slovenan Social Science Conference was twofold. Firstly, through a series of presentations, we explored the importance of EU digital policies in advancing sustainable development. Secondly, the Head of the Chair, Prof. Dr. Tea Golob, presented the Chair’s activities and reflected on how its aims and objectives have been achieved as it enters the second year of operation.
In addition, the session featured the presentation and discussion of research findings on digital citizenship among young people and its relationship to European citizenship. This research supports the Chair’s teaching activities and highlights that active youth engagement in e-governance, alongside a strong sense of EU identity, is crucial for building a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking Europe capable of adapting to technological change and addressing the needs of all citizens.
While many young Europeans are active digital citizens, the study also emphasizes that levels of digital engagement vary significantly across different groups and individuals. The research conducted in collaboration with prof. M. Makarovič and prof. M. Rek will be published soon—stay tuned for the upcoming news from IC4EU.
